New and improved

Yesterday was Sankt Hans in Denmark. That is the day where Danes celebrate the mid-summer by burning a witch on the stake... but that's besides the point.

This year I went to Tivoli not only because they had a bonfire but mainly because on this day they introduced a new and improved version of their Tivoli Illuminations (I thought I had already covered the Tivoli Illuminations show before but can't seem to find it) - a light, water, smoke and fire show in Tivoli.

As a big fan of fireworks shows and the like this show has always been right up my alley, though it have been lacking from the beginning. But allow me to back up a bit and talk about the introduction of Tivoli Illuminations.

Tivoli have always been famous for their lights decorations. It goes back all the way to around the 1840's where the garden would be decorated with thousands of lights. In 2002 Tivoli took the next step and introduced Tivoli Illuminations a meeting of lights sounds, laser, fire, smoke and water. This combination was very pretty but the show (which was about 10 min) never seemed have a natural ending. The music didn't really come to a conclusion, so the ending almost seemed like a anti-climax. This was my biggest issue from the beginning and the show have largely remained the same since it's inception in 2002. So you can understand my joy when I saw that the show would get a long due restructuring.

The new show was then introduced after the traditional bonfire and I must say they have improved it quite a bit. First off all it seems more impressive than the old one, with more coherence between water, lights and music. And my biggest issue have been somewhat resolved... the end is now no longer an anti-climactic experience. Even so the show still lacks a bit compared to other similar concepts (e.g. Fantasmic at Disneyland).

Now if they would just improve on their last fireworks show and avoid the use of completely unrelated (for Tivoli) use of old movie soundtracks... guess I'll have to see when they show their fireworks this year!
